RECOMMENDATIONS

Below is information you might find useful in planning your Maui holiday.  Our tourists levels are high and for the week you booked, there will be lots of activity on the island.  To make sure you get to do what you want and eat in places you might like, I highly suggest booking reservations far in advance.  Just one example is Mama’s Fish House, listed below, books out 3-4 months in advance.

RESTAURANTS

Mama's Fish House

https://www.mamasfishhouse.com/ – Expensive but an over the top restaurant.  Reservations books out about two – three months in advance.

Cafe Olei

https://www.cafeoleirestaurants.com/ They have multiple locations.  Cafe O’lei Kihei is right across the street and walkable for you.  The Mill House is newly taken over by them.  A little different menu but one of our favorites.

Frida's Beach House

https://www.fridasmaui.com/  This is on the westside in Lahaina.  It is a Mexican flair ocean fusion type place by Chef Mark Ellman.

Maui Thai Bistro

https://www.mauithaibistro.com/  Located right across the street and an easy walk.  Great Thai food, nice service.  They also offer take out.  A great first night option to order take out and eat on the lanai.

South Maui Fish Company

http://southmauifishco.com/ This is a food truck.  It is owned and operated by our concierge’s family, Mary.  They were on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives – Triple D on the Food Network on July 30, 2021.  It is great for fresh fish you can purchase for prep at home and they have amazing fish tacos, fresh poke and more.

Nalu's South Shore Grill

https://naluskihei.com Open-air bar/eatery with seasonal, locally sourced Hawaiian recipes, plus occasional live music.

Nuka

https://www.nukamaui.com/ – This is a true Japanese food and sushi restaurant. It is on the north shore in Haiku town.  They do not take reservations.  First come first serve and you wait.  They open at 4:30pm for dinner and also open for lunch.

Hali'imaile General Store

https://hgsmaui.com/ – A long time favorite restaurant by Chef Bev Gannon.

Matteo's Osteria

https://www.matteosmaui.com/ Excellent food, outstanding service and a huge wine cellar.

Seascape Maalaea Restaurant

https://mauioceancenter.com/dine/ Associated with the Maui Ocean Center.  Both are highly recommended.  Seascape Restaurant is only open for lunch 11am – 3pm.  Fantastic views of the harbor.  Make a reservation for sure.

ISLAND ACTIVITIES

Maui Guide

A good place to start – https://mauiguide.com/ .  This is one of the best online and up to date guides for Maui.  In this guide you will find many activity companies.  But here are a few of our  favorites:

Alii Nui Sailing Charters

https://www.aliinuimaui.com/ Great for snorkeling, sunset sails and whale watching

Hawaiian Paddle Sports

https://hawaiianpaddlesports.com/ Amazing company and doing an outrigger canoe paddle is wonderful.  During whale season it is amazing to be so close to the water when the whales appear and they do.

Air Maui

https://www.airmaui.com/ – Numerous different options.  We like the 60 minute tour of West Maui and Moloka’i.  It is outstanding.  Or you can do a 45 minute doors-off tour.

Road to Hana and More

https://www.temptationtours.com/ If you want to go to Hana on the far eastern side of the island, we highly recommend taking a tour versus driving it yourself.

Whale Watching

https://www.pacificwhale.org/ Pacific Whale Foundation is a great option for family whale watching.  Just make sure you book one of the larger boats.  Just more room to move around.

Private Chef

Private Maui Chef – in particular Chef Kenny – Kenneth Droter is our highest recommendation for a private chef and he knows our kitchen and dining amenities. Menus he enjoys preparing for you – American Regional, Mediterranean, Italian, French, Pastries, Vegan, Vegetarian, Tropical foods, Filipino, Spanish/Mexican, Japanese, and much more.
